What is the growing season

The Growing Season (Color Blind Love Series Book 1)I once read Catcher in the Rye to check if I was a sleeper agent I found out two things I wasn t and that I did not like this classic of modern literature The rambling style the repetitious dialog and most of all the unlikable protagonist made the page after page of thick prose of a trial than an enjoyable read Despite my distaste for that well known story I found myself drawing comparisons to Mr Day s work The Growing Season which I very much enjoyed primarily because of one break in similarities namely that the characters are likable. Growing strong in the seasons of life pdf It s Catcher in the Rye meets The Dukes of Hazard The meat of the story is about a young Vietnam vet spending the summer of 1975 in south west Virginia He stays with a war buddy Zach and Zach s agricultural partner Fat Boy and samples every joy there is to be had in rural VA Along the way there are run ins with the law with a wanna be gangster and with the best and worst of Southern Christianity There is also a lot of discussion of smoking pot The authors rambling style takes a while to get into he starts off by describing himself as not much of a writer He is quite literally functionally illiterate a fact he told me himself I had the opportunity to meet the author and it s not hard to see that much of the narrator s storytelling style is Day s own There are some places it shows namely certain phrases that are repeated and the fact that all the characters feel like they re speaking the same dialect The literary weaknesses of the author though eventually turn into a style and if the reader lets themselves be drawn in there is a rich and warm set of folks to meet between the pages My one real criticism of the tale is that there are a lot of formatting errors Quotation marks are used haphazardly and the author will switch between third and first person in places without warning This can make parts of the text confusing but not unreadable The strength of the book lies in it s honesty I d say This is not a book that puts on airs or tries to make it s characters out to be larger than life They are easy to picture and utterly believable people who despite having very similar voice on the page distinguish themselves both in the narrative and in the mind of the reader I m just a smutwriter but I appreciate any well told tale and The Growing Season is one In addition to the stories I mentioned it reminded me a bit of God Bless the Beasts and Children or That Was Then This is Now at least in the naked way the internal monologue of the principles are presented As the first book of a man who on paper doesn t sound like an author it s a masterpiece Absent knowledge of the author s challenges I d still think it was a good read just one that could use another round of editing Looking forward to reading the sequel The Growing Season Color Blind Love Series Book 1 Wow I absolutely loved this book though it isn t my cup of tea Can t wait to read Jiffy Day s next book After the Harvest I m sure i ll get hooked again The Growing Season Color Blind Love Series Book 1 Drugs drama conviction and Christianity The Growing Season Color Blind Love Series Book 1.
